What is a easy way to build a brick border for a flower bed? Are there any sites that give step by step inst.?

I want to build a brick border around my trees and flower beds but I am not very strong so I need to know how to mix the mud to hold the bricks together as easy as possible. Also what do I have to do to the ground before I start?

Boy, the experts are really out tonight, aren't they? Okay, the first thing you need to do is dig a little trench about the width of a brick around your tree or flower bed, about 4 inches deep. Put in at least an inch of builder's sand in the bottom. Take one of those small carpenter's levels (about a foot long) and go around the trench, making sure it's level. When it is, start bricking.

The mud is called mortar and you can buy it in 10 lb. bags at Home Depot or Lowe's. You'll need a trowel to apply it.

Every time you put down a layer of bricks, check them with the level before you put the mortar on top.

Have fun.
Reply:if it is not load bearing (dirt behind it), you don't necessarily have to use concrete. if it is say a nine inch stone, bury about 4-5 inches in the ground and back fill around it. I researched doing this myself but ended up hiring someone who will be using concrete. Good Luck!!

Reply:No sites that I know of ,but you can buy this book, you'll be happy you did. Kind of costly, but well worth the money spent. The book is,Complete Home How To, by Popular Mechanics. Bye
Reply:Hire a landscaper. If you're in the St louis area I can help you out.
Reply:Why you want a border wall for? Wanna keep out illegal ants or something?
Reply:Not really sure. What I would do is check out www.1800TOPSOIL.com or call 1-800-TOPSOIL to see if they service your area. They're national and they're very good. They can also help you over the phone and describe what you should and should not do. Good luck!
