What can I use to keep my dog from digging in my flower beds that doesn't cost alot?

It's an unfortunate part of a humans life. The perennial dug up flower garden.

Best method is to boundary train him/her. Put the dog on a leash have 2 people for the project. Put 1 inside the flower bed the other with the dog outside the flower bed. The person inside the NO ZONE needs to coax the door to come in and when they try to do so pull back on the leash and say NO! don't be mean or hurt the dog, just make sure the dog has the idea.

Keep repeating this and even change places with the other person for the coax. Keep walking the edge of the garden doing this. NOT TOO MUCH at one time. It might take a couple of weeks doing this once or twice a day.

When the dog does respond to NOT entering the NO ZONE always praise them.

We trained our dog to stay inside the yard WITHOUT A FENCE never leaving the grassy area.

The dog was adopted from the Humane Society and these were the instruction inside the book they gave us .

Take cayon pepper and put it into several small dishes.put those around the flower beds and the strong odor will stop the dog from wanting to dig in the area.
Reply:I thought I'd loose my temper so many times.Every time I planted flowers, my dog would dig them up. I tried many things, nothing worked until the day I placed barbed wire through and around the flower bed. It wasn't cruel. The first time he put that paw on it, he had sense enough to quit. I put barbed wire around everything I plant. I can take it up now and he still wont dig. Stopped him cold. He never once cut his foot, and I promise, yours wont either.
Reply:spray pepper on the surfaces
Reply:Bury some carpet tack strips.
Reply:spread a thick border of cayanne peper around the border of your flower bed. keep it about 10 inches away from the flowers. This will keep your dog out of it as well as rabbits and other unwanted pests.
Reply:You could try laying chicken wire down on the surface of the garden, after you sow the seeds and set a border of rocks or something at the edge of the chicken wire. If you do more transplants of stuff that was started early indoors or bought at a nursery, there may be something similar to chicken wire that has wider spacing so you could either dig inside the wire, or gently fit it over the plants right after you transplant them. After you have planted your flowers, then you can cover the chicken wire with a layer of dirt or mulch so it does not show.

You would be able to find it at some hardware stores, and for sure at places like Farm %26amp; Fleet or Mills Fleet/Farm stores. It should be a lot less hazardous to you and your dog as the barbed wire suggestion, and should offer some protection.
