How can I clean my Flower beds, which are now full of weeds ?

Weeds are growing in the Flower beds very quickly. It is in alarming dimensions, it grows like anything with in days. I am plucking them as far as possible on my knees, but the next day, they are there , double that of the previous day.

How can I clean my Flower beds, which are now full of weeds ?
This time of year, weeds are growing like crazy. With the stressful conditions that exist this time of year, it's the weeds that win over the less vigorous (but prettier) plants we want to grow in the beds.

I'm afraid the others are right.. you gotta pull those weeds and get the roots, too. After you clear the weeds, put down a layer of mulch 3-4" deep to help keep them down.

Here's where my answer differs- When you plant your plants next spring, apply some Preen (a pre-emergent) to the soil before mulching. The pre-emergent is a chemical that prevents the weed seed from germinating, so.. fewer weeds. You can also lay down a couple of sheets of newspaper over the soil and mulch over it, but it's not quite as effective..

(PS- don't use Preen if you grow your plants from seed)

The real secret is to stay ahead of the weeds.. pull 'em when they're small and you have to stay after them.. check your beds every few days for weeds.. tedious, i know, but you also get to benefit from spending some time in your garden and watching the (pretty ones) plants grow!
Reply:I have the same problem and got tired of weeding nearly every day. The last time I pulled them out I used Preen weed and feed which is keeping them from coming back and is supposed to continue working for 3 months. Give yourself the gift of a well deserved break.
Reply:Start Pickn'

Make sure you get all the roots or they may grow back.
Reply:Use a hoe and rake first and then pick out any remaining weeds. Cover with mulch to discourage more weeds. You can also lay paper grocery bags down over the weeded areas before mulching. The paper will eventually disintegrate under the mulch, but in the meantime, it will kill any weeds that try to grow again.
